Teak Chaise Lounge

The correct name for a teak chaise lounge is actually a ‘chaise longue’. It is the French for ‘lounge chair’, and is a word that we have imported from their language (much the same way as we did with the word ‘cliché’). The American spelling is now firmly imprinted in our culture, and is the version that you’ll find most people using (as it’s the version you’ll find in most dictionaries).

A teak chaise lounge is very similar to what you might call a deckchair, except that it’s more ‘established’. By this I mean that it does not fold up the same way, and you would be less likely to move it around, due to its size and weight (the additional weight comes from being made of thicker, stronger wood and having extra pillows/cushions on it for extra comfort and support). You would often find these kinds of chairs around a swimming pool, and people often use them to sunbathe. The stereotypical view of an American hotel would have several plastic chaise lounge chairs around it, all adorned by bikini-clad women.

There is a new type of sun lounger that I’ve seen lots of people buying lately, and that’s an eco-friendly chaise longue. So why is it eco friendly? Basically, it’s made with wood from the eucalyptus tree. This means that the people making them aren’t having to cut down endangered trees in order to get the require wood. Another benefit of these types of sun lounger is that they can be left outside all year round without having to worry about weather damage. The wood is so tough (and is naturally coated with protective oils) that you’ll only need to put a small cover over it to make it last for years.

The downside of this is that the wood is typically softer then you’d usually use, and therefore is suited to lighter people. For a hardwood chaise longue you can’t look past anything made by Strathwood, who are the industry leaders and the largest brand in the marketplace. Their chairs always look classic yet classy, and are made to the absolute highest quality. After buying your precious lounger, make sure to find out if it comes with cushions and a protective cover. If not, spend some time investing in these most precious of commodities, as if you don’t protect it properly it won’t last as long. Secondly, without cushions you won’t be able to lay down comfortably, and you won’t ever want to use your teak chaise lounge.

The nicest version of this chair I’ve seen lately was a teak chaise lounge and was made up with slats of wood. These kinds of chairs can be bought online for less than a hundred dollars these days (especially in the winter months). It’s actually much cheaper to buy one of these chairs in the autumn or winter (as it’s the cold season), but you’ll most likely have to store it away somewhere till summer comes and you can actually use it.
